Briere and Runtz (1989) created and standardised the Trauma Symptoms Checklist – 40 or TSC-40 for professionals to conduct research. Please don’t use this as a self-test. Instead use this for self-therapy or to start a discussion with friends, family and colleagues. The first step towards self-therapy is personal research. This tool only measures symptoms and should not be used to make a diagnosis. You may use TSC-40 for the following reasons:
- To understand stressful feelings.
- To understand yourself better.
- To explore if you need therapy.
- To understand yourself post a traumatic incident.
- To understand if statements in TSC-40 impact work/school/relationships.
- For leisure.
- For research purposes.
After scoring yourself and/or your circle of people, you will be able to understand the statements associated with:
- Dissociation
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Sexual Abuse Trauma Index (SATI)
- Sleep Disturbances
- Sexual Problems
Please grand total the scores received per statement and also the scores per subscale (provided inside).
In case you find yourself scoring more than 50% or at a level of concern, please consult your therapist or use G.E.T. Toolkit.
