Briere and Runtz (1989) created and standardised the Trauma Symptoms Checklist – 40 or TSC-40 for professionals to conduct research. Please don’t use this as a self-test. Instead use this for self-therapy or to start a discussion with friends, family and colleagues. The first step towards self-therapy is personal research. This tool only measures symptoms and should not be used to make a diagnosis. You may use TSC-40 for the following reasons:

  1. To understand stressful feelings.
  2. To understand yourself better.
  3. To explore if you need therapy.
  4. To understand yourself post a traumatic incident.
  5. To understand if statements in TSC-40 impact work/school/relationships.
  6. For leisure.
  7. For research purposes.

After scoring yourself and/or your circle of people, you will be able to understand the statements associated with:

  1. Dissociation
  2. Anxiety
  3. Depression
  4. Sexual Abuse Trauma Index (SATI)
  5. Sleep Disturbances
  6. Sexual Problems

Please grand total the scores received per statement and also the scores per subscale (provided inside).

In case you find yourself scoring more than 50% or at a level of concern, please consult your therapist or use G.E.T. Toolkit.
